The Edmonton Oilers continue to extract value from the first round pick they gave up to the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade last season.

On Sunday, the Oilers officially announced that they had come to terms on a new 2 year agreement with forward Colton Dach, Dach who was of course acquired alongside fellow Oilers forward Jason Dickinson in a deal in which the Oilers sent a 2027 first round pick and forward Andrew Mangiapane the other way.

The terms of this new deal are very reasonable with Dach costing the Oilers an average annual value and salary cap hit of just $1.2 million over the next two seasons.

Dach didn't get much of a look with the Oilers following the trade but it seems the Oilers like what they saw, or at the very least view Dach as a valuable depth addition to their roster. In 8 regular season games following the trade he looked solid with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. He saw less success in the playoffs however, appearing in 5 games for the Oilers where he had no goals and only a single assist.

While this deal won't be a game changer for the Oilers, it is always nice when a team makes good on retaining players they gave up valuable assets to acquire. Dach and Dickinson have now both signed new deals with the Oilers, giving the team some extra value on the first round pick they gave up in a trade.
