Oilers sign Jesse Puljujarvi to a very risky contract
What on earth is Ken Holland doing?
HockeyFeed
This just in according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Edmonton Oilers have signed RFA forward Jesse Puljujarvi to a one year deal worth $3 million.
The general consensus from Oilers fans online is that this is a pretty big overpay by Oilers GM Ken Holland. Puljujarvi wasn't likely to get more $2 or $2.5 million via arbitration, so this is a slight overpay by most accounts. The problem as I see it though isn't the salary, it's the term. Puljujarvi doesn't have the best track record in Edmonton and now he has just a one year timeframe before he can duck out Matthew Tkachuk style. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he's traded mid-season depending on how his campaign goes. Either way, I absolutely do NOT sign Puljujarvi signing for any serious term a year from now. To me, this is a risky contract that could come back to bite Holland and the Oilers in the end. Stay tuned.
