THIS JUST IN: busy on the ice and off it late on Wednesday.
During the second intermission of the Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames in Edmonton, the Oilers had a special announcement:
“We interrupt game coverage for a moment to let you know the Oilers have agreed to terms with forward Jack Roslovic on a one-year contract with an AAV of $1.5 million.”
Ahead of the second period of the Oilers’ home opener, insider Elliotte Friedman had revealed that Edmonton was near an agreement with Roslovic, though nothing had been confirmed.
But the Oilers made it official moments later despite being in the middle of a game against an important division rival, and now Roslovic is coming to Edmonton.
Back in August, Roslovic was ranked No. 1 on most Top 25 lists of available free agents out there and everyone had started to wonder where he would play this season, especially when the calendar kicked off on Tuesday.
Roslovic, whose last deal was an AAV of $4 million, is a right-handed center listed at 6’1” and 198 pounds. He was selected in the first round, 25th overall, by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2015 NHL draft. Last season, he posted 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points in 81 games with the Carolina Hurricanes.
