The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they've signed 25 year old forward Dominik Kahun to a one year contract worth $975,000.

Check it out:

Nice... a decent little pick up for the Oilers at a reasonable cap hit. Not bad, not bad at all.

But there's actually more to this signing than meets the eye. You see, Kahun is a lifelong friend of Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl. The pair grew up together in Cologne, Germany and even played three seasons together during their minor hockey days. In fact, the pair reportedly put up an INSANE 627 points combined in just 60 games. Yes you read that correctly. 627 points in 60 games. That is NOT a typo.

It'll be interesting to see if the Oilers elect to play Kahun alongside Draisaitl, as it's obvious that the pair has some pretty lethal chemistry. As for Kahun himself, he put up 12 goals and 31 points in 56 games last season split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. He's a defensively reliable player who cadd add some offensive punch at opportune times. In other words, he's exactly the type of player that the Oilers should be targeting. Excellent signing from Ken Holland and company.
