Superstar Connor McDavid is expected to miss the next two-to-three weeks with a quad injury, Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland revealed on Tuesday.

McDavid sustained the injury Saturday night against the Nashville Predators when he crashed into the boards early in the second period. While he finished the game without missing any shifts, it seemed like the hope that he would be okay was short-lived.

He skated with the team’s power-play units on Monday but left the ice before the full team portion of the skate. And then came the news…

On Tuesday morning, head coach Dave Tippett explained how he didn’t expected his captain to miss any time and how he almost choked on his food when he was informed about McDavid’s absence.

We’re happy that the announcement didn’t kill the Oilers’ head coach on top of this.

The Oilers currently sit second in the Pacific Division, but have only a one-point lead over the Arizona Coyotes, who currently sit outside the playoff picture. The Oilers will host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight.

There is a tight playoff race taking place in the West and McDavid could have helped his team stay about water for the coming weeks. He sits second in the NHL in points this season behind teammate Leon Draisaitl. Hehas 30 goals and 81 points in 55 games this season.

Draisaitl will have to take most of the load on his shoulders now…
