TRADE ALERT!
The Edmonton Oilers are making a move to improve their situation in between the pipes. According to insider Elliotte Friedman, they have just traded with the Utah Mammoth for goalie Connor Ingram.
Friedman went on to add these details to the transaction, saying:
"There is retention here. Ingram will start at AHL Bakersfield, at a number that does not affect the Oilers’ cap."
The salary retention in the trade allow Edmonton to assign Ingram to AHL Bakersfield without any impact on their cap. He'll count $1.15M when/if he's brought up to the NHL roster.
Utah is retaining $800k of the $1.95 million that Ingram is owed this season.
Here are the full trade details:
TO EDM: Goalie Connor Ingram
TO UTAH: Future considerations.
Moments later, the Oilers confirmed the trade on their social media outlets:
Last Thursday, Ingram was placed on waivers by the Mammoth with several insiders quickly linking him to the Oilers, who have been looking for months for some change in net.
On Friday, the deadline came and went and it was finally confirmed that Ingram was not claimed off the wire and that Utah would need to explore the trade route to provide the young goalie with a start elsewhere in the league.
It was revealed earlier in September that general manager Bill Armstrong was looking to move the netminder, who did not attend the team’s training camp. Ingram missed the end of the 2024-25 campaign while tending to a personal matter, but he was cleared to return to on-ice activities in mid-August. The National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players Association’s Player Assistance Program even released an official update on the status of Ingram, stating that he had once again been cleared to return to play in the NHL.
It has not been easy for Ingram, who has openly shared his ongoing struggles since he came into the NHL and with the recent unexpected loss of his mother to breast cancer, and a fresh start seems to be exactly what he needs.
Ingram had shined in goal over the past few seasons as a member of the Arizona Coyotes, but his play saw a significant decline during the 2024-25 NHL regular season. Ingram recorded a 3.27 goals against average and a .882 save percentage over just 22 games last season, by far the worst stretch of play across his entire NHL career.
But he could get a new start and some great motivation with the shot at playing for a true contender in Edmonton.
