After Connor Murphy, Edmonton takes more from the Hawks..
The Edmonton Oilers may have already added defenseman Connor Murphy earlier this week, but they just went back to Chicago for more.
Elliotte Friedman reported “Edmonton and Chicago are discussing another move” earlier on Wednesday night.
It was later finalized with the Blackhawks sending Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach to the Oilers in exchange for Andrew Mangiapane and a protected first-round pick in 2027,
The Blackhawks will retain 50 per cent of Dickinson’s salary, which would make his cap hit $2.125 million on the Oilers’ books. The first round pick is Top 12 protected.
Edmonton sent a second round pick for Murphy earlier this week.
Dickinson, who is 30, is on the final season of a two-year, $8.5 million contract that carries a cap hit of $4.25 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
The centerman has been traded twice before, from the Dallas Stars to the Vancouver Canucks in July 2021 and from the Canucks to the Hawks in October 2022, but never at the deadline.
Colton Dach has put up three goals and nine points this season in 53 games, his first full-year in the NHL. He split time between the Blackhawks and the Rockford Ice Dogs of the AHL last season.
As for Mangiapane, who will turn 30 in April, he has one more year left on his contract with a $3.6M cap hit, and has recently buried in the AHL to create enough cap space to… trade for Murphy.
