The Edmonton Oilers are making some roster moves and at least one of them will be permanent.

On Sunday, the Oilers officially announced that both forward David Tomasek and forward Noah Philp were being placed on waivers. This of course makes them eligible to be picked up by every one of the other 31 teams in the National Hockey League, although whether or not any of those teams submits a claim remains to be seen.

That seems very unlikely in the case of Tomasek with the Oilers announcing in this case that they are parting ways with the player. According to the official announcement Tomasek is being placed on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract with the organization, a move that will make him a free agent.

Tomasek's only NHL experience has come as a member of the Oilers with 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points over his 22 career games in the NHL.

Philp on the other hand does seem like the kind of player a team could look to claim, if only to add to their forward depth. The 27 year old centerman is currently on a league minimum contract with a cap hit of just $775,000 on his one year deal, which makes him as about as affordable and low risk of a waiver pickup that you can get.

Philp has played in 15 NHL games for the Oilers this season and has 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points over that stretch of play.

We won't learn either man's fate until Monday.
