The Edmonton Oilers lost one of their top forwards early on in the season when star forward Evander Kane suffered a devastating injury to his wrist. Kane's wrist received a very deep cut from the skate of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon, and realistically there will be no replacing Kane until he returns from the lengthy layoff he will need to recover from that injury.

The Oilers did pull off one heck of a comeback win over the New York Rangers on Saturday night, after being down by 3 goals at one point in the game, but in spite of that National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman would reveal that very same night that the Oilers are looking to make some additions. Speaking during the NHL broadcast, Friedman indicated that the Oilers could be looking to add as many as two players to their current roster.

"One thing I do think the Oilers are looking at is just some depth forwards who are edgy or who can grind a little bit," revealed Friedman on Saturday night.

It would appear as though the Oilers feel they have lost some of their edge with Kane out of the lineup and as a result have become an easier team to compete against. Friedman indicated that a gritty type of player would be the kind of man the Oilers would be looking to bring in here, however he did indicate that it would have to be on the cheap given the Oilers' current situation.

"I think there is a feeling since Evander Kane went out that they are a lot easier to play against and I do think the Oilers are looking to see, they are tight on the cap, can they find a budget player or two that can make a difference in their forward depth."

That won't be an easy move to make midseason for Oilers general manager Ken Holland.
