Olli Juolevi removed from active roster, has been seriously injured.

If you thought the fans pointing out the fact that the Vancouver Canucks could have had Calgary Flames star forward Matthew Tkachuk instead of Canucks first round draft pick Olli Juolevi were annoying before, things are about to get much, much worse.

The Vancouver Canucks organization has just released a stunning statement regarding the health of Olli Juolevi, announcing that Juolevi has been flat out removed from the active roster effective immediately. The announcement was made on Saturday afternoon by Canucks general manager Jim Benning and it revealed that Juolevi has suffered some form of significant injury, although the team would not provide any details regarding the nature of his injury. Instead the Canucks are describing this as a "lower body ailment" which would not sound so serious if it were not for the fact that the Canucks appear to have ruled out Juolevi indefinitely as a result of this situation.

The Canucks did reveal however that injury causing this predicament is not related to the existing knee injury that Juolevi was dealing with, although whether or not that is a good thing remains to be seen at this point. This is just yet another major disappointment in the development of the former Top 5 pick at the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft and comes off the heels of what was starting out to be a rather uninspiring season on the part of Juolevi at the American Hockey League level. 

Juolevi had thus far appeared in 14 games for the Utica Comments, the AHL affiliate team of the Vancouver Canucks, this season and during those games he had produced no goals and just 5 assists for a total of 5 points on the season. Juolevi also picked up 8 penalty minutes over that period of time and had a plus minus rating of -4 overall on the season. It is hard not to suggest that Juolevi has been anything other than a bust thus far for the Canucks organization, especially when you consider the fact that he will routinely be compared to the aforementioned Matthew Tkachuk who was selected just one pick after Juolevi.

At 21 years of age the young defenseman certainly still has time to change that narrative, but for now this has to feel terrible both for the Canucksand their fan base.
