UPDATE: Make it 999 for John Tavares!

Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares is currently sitting at 998 career NHL points, just two shy of hitting the career milestone of 1,000 points.

Only 97 players in NHL history have reached the 1,000 point plateau and tonight, in the city that he abandoned, Tavares could become the 98th.

Tavares and the Leafs are at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY to take on the New York Islanders, the team that he left as a free agent six years ago. And if you think there's any love loss between Tavares and the Islanders faithful, think again. Despite leaving the team nearly 2,000 days ago, Islanders fans are still bitter with how their former captain left and they let him hear all about it.

Check it out:

Look... I'm not about to tell people how they should or shouldn't cheer but... it was nearly 2,000 days ago. It's time to move on, Isles fans.

For our earlier report on Leafs forward Max Domi and how he could find himself at the center of a trade, read below.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have not been getting the kind of offense that they were hoping from forward Max Domi, the son of beloved former Leafs icon Tie Domi, when he signed with them during the offseason.

Through the first 24 games of the season, he's lit the lamp a grand total of one time.

Could the Leafs be working on a trade to bring in additional reinforcements, and could Domi be part of a potential trade package? According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, that could be on GM Brad Treliving's mind:

"To be sure, the Maple Leafs' top trade priority is defence help, particularly on the right side.

Reading between the lines of comments made by coach Sheldon Keefe and GM Brad Treliving this week, Toronto would also like to upgrade its centre depth.

Max Domi has filled in admirably as a third-line pivot, but his trust defensively is iffy. Sense is, the Leafs would prefer a pure pivot and keep Domi as a middle-six utility player.

Three rental names to keep in mind: Anaheim's Adam Henrique, Montreal's Sean Monahan and Seattle's Alexander Wennberg.

The Ducks and Kraken would a) need to declare themselves sellers and b) retain salary for a hypothetical trade to work."

What kind of move could you see the Leafs brass making, and could it involve Domi?
