On August 26, 1971, it was a historic day in the NHL. Arguably one of the greatest defenseman of all time Bobby Orr signed the first ever NHL contract worth one million dollars.

The bruins would pay Orr a value of $200,000 for the next five season. Orr had 955 career NHL points in 657 games with the Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks. If we look at this deal in more modern times, the term steal could be applied as compared to the big contracts that have been signed these past few seasons.
