On this day: Wings capture their 10th Stanley Cup

No doubt about it, this was one of the greatest teams to ever take the ice.

Sick of seeing Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins hoist the Stanley Cup? Take a trip back in time to 2002 where, on this day, the Detroit Red Wings captured their 10th Stanley Cup championship with a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

The team that general manager Ken Holland assembled was nothing short of incredible. Among the Hockey Hall of Famers on the team’s roster were Steve Yzerman, Igor Larionov, Sergei Fedorov, Brett Hull, Brendan Shanahan, Luc Robitaille, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios and Dominik Hasek. Oh, and they were coached by Scott Bowman. Show me another team in history with this collection of talent on one squad. Remarkable.
