Of the 13 salary arbitration filings for the summer of 2025 in the NHL, only one case remains unresolved: that of Nick Robertson.

The forward and the Toronto Maple Leafs are scheduled to present their case this Sunday. Will the Maple Leafs and Robertson’s camp find common ground before then?

According to Elliotte Friedman, Robertson is asking for $2.25 million, while the team is offering $1.2 million. They are $1.05 million apart in their arbitration filings.

Robertson and the Maple Leafs have been at odds for several seasons now. If it’s not the player’s criticism of how he’s been used, it’s disagreements over his contract. Last summer, the 23-year-old winger even requested a trade out of Toronto. In the end, he signed a one-year deal worth $875,000 and went on to score 15 goals and 22 points in 69 NHL games. He also played nine games in the AHL, where he racked up 11 points.

Selected in the second round, 53rd overall, of the 2019 NHL Draft, the young forward has played 156 games in the NHL.

The Maple Leafs are struggling to find a solution to this ongoing issue. Robertson is too offensively dominant to stay put in the AHL, yet not quite impactful enough to secure a top-six role in Toronto. Still, no trade has been made, as his low salary makes him a valuable depth asset, a luxury for a cap-heavy team like the Leafs.

The 12 other arbitration cases scheduled for this summer in the NHL were settled before hearings took place.
