As good as the game of hockey is all on it's own, there's no disputing the fact that a good rivalry can elevate an already great sport to even greater heights, and we may have a new one in the making between two National Hockey League goaltenders.
On Wednesday night things got heated between the Montreal Canadiens and the Buffalo Sabres, and Sabres goalie Robin Lehner got involved, something he has demonstrated a willingness to do more and more as of late. The situation looked like it might end with a goalie fight, however Montreal Canadiens goalie Ben Scrivens never made his way down the ice, perhaps a wise decision, and the officials restrained Lehner in his own zone.
In the video below you can get an idea of how tense things got as the two goalies stared each other down the ice.
Now Lehner has issued a challenge to Scrivens, and has effectively called him out for refusing to fight, it will be interesting to see if Scrivens responds, or if he is even given the chance to respond in an NHL game against the Buffalo Sabres.
