One of the top unsigned free agents may be considering leaving for Europe.

He's just one season removed from a 30+ goal season.

It sounds like there's a real chance that one of the National Hockey League's top unsigned free agents may be on the verge of bolting for Europe.

In a recent TSN interview, Ben Kuzma of the Province sports revealed that free agent forward Radim Vrbata may leave for Europe if he doesn't get an offer he believes is suitable in the NHL. According to Kuzma Vrbata is looking for both significant term and money, and is unlikely to get it.

"Here's the problem with Vrbata, in his mind he's a 30 goal scorer, he did score 31 goals for the Canucks two years ago,and in his mind he's still that $5 million dollar guy but he's not," said Kuzma on Vancouver's 1040.

While Kuzma did admit that there was a possibility of him signing with the Arizona Coyotes, he also pointed to the major changes in management that have recently taken place in that organization, and expressed doubts that the young staff would see big money value in an aging player like Vrbata. Furthermore family concerns could also weigh in on Vrbata's decision.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't go to Arizona... I would think Europe would be in his cards having just had another child in May"

It would be a major surprise if he left the NHL, as Kuzma mentioned in his comments he is just one season from a 31 goal performance, but it's true that his most recent outing in 2015-2016 is highly unlikely to convince a team to commit to him long term at 35 years old. If he can find stability for his family with a long term deal in Europe, he may choose that route.
