On Thursday, the Winnipeg Jets placed forward Michael Eyssimont on waivers. They were forced to do so seeing that a number of stars near their return from injury for tonight’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Blake Wheeler, Nikolaj Ehlers, Cole Perfetti and Nate Schmidt are likely to return.

Eyssimont was therefore placed on waivers in the hopes of sending him down to the minors, however on Friday at the deadline, the San Jose Sharks claimed the forward from Winnipeg.

In 19 games this season, the 26-year-old forward currently has one goal and five points.

Sharks beat reporter Curtis Pashelka explains how Radim Simek has been placed on injured reserve to make room for Eyssimont on the 23-man roster.

Eyssimont will be traveling to San Jose, not Anaheim. The Sharks host the Boston Bruins tomorrow night.

“Eyssimont is competitive, plays hard (with a bit of an edge), had good hockey IQ — qualities that made him attractive to the Sharks,” adds Pashelka.
