THIS JUST IN: action on the wire on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators placed defenseman Donovan Sebrango on waivers. The San Jose Sharks did the same with forward Egor Afanasyev. At the deadline on Wednesday, one had the chance to be claimed off the wire as the Florida Panthers claimed Sebrango off waivers from Ottawa.
The left-shot blue liner appeared in two of Ottawa’s three games this season, tallying one shot on goal and one hit in an average of 15:14 per game.
Last year, he set career highs in goals (8), assists (12) and points (20) in Belleville. In 227 AHL games, both regular-season and playoffs, Sebrango has scored 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points.
The young defender also appeared in two games with the club last season.
The Panthers made the move just hours after they announced that defenseman Dmitry Kulikov has undergone surgery and is expected to miss the next five months of action.
As for Afanasyev, he has cleared waivers and will be sent down to the Sharks’ farm club.
The young winger signed a one-year deal prior to this season, signing a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Sharks back in May.
In 19 NHL games, Afanasyev has scored just one goal. In 223 AHL apperances, he has posted 62 goals and 71 assists for 133 points.
