One team attempts to acquire both Tanev brothers!

A plan is in motion:

Chris Gosselin

Chris Tanev is expected to become one of the most coveted free agents out there on the market this July with several teams already linked to the defenseman, including the Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs. However now another team joins the sweepstakes and is willing to make a move to get his brother Brandon Tanev from the Seattle Kraken to ensure they can convince the blue liner to come and play with his sibling.

According to Rick Dhawihal, the Ottawa Senators are trying to acquire Brandon Tanev from Seattle to increase their chances of signing his brother Chris.

Dallas, who traded for Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames ahead of the March deadline this spring, remains in the mix to sign the defensemam. Though Bruce Garrioch revealed that Ottawa also look to acquired the Flames’ blue liner before the deal was done with the Stars.

“The Senators tried to bring in Tanev last season to help provide veteran help,” wrote Garrioch, “but he wouldn’t waive his no-move clause to be dealt to Ottawa by the Calgary Flames.”

The Senators could go back with the new strategy in Chris Tanev’s attention with the chance to play alongside his brother. Brandon Tanev is entering the final year of his current contract, which carries a cap hit of $3.5 million.

When it comes to the pending defensive free agent, Chris Tanev could command north of $4.5 million per season for the Stars to retain his services.

If they can’t, maybe the idea of playing with his brother close to their hometown of Toronto will convince Chris Tanev to sign in Ottawa. However, the trade must be done with Seattle AND the contract offer has to be right for Chris Tanev.

A lot at play…
