The UFA market is set to open pretty soon but teams already make some moves to convince the best possible players to come their way. It's not only a matter of money for some, but finding the right fit at the right time in their career. Some player look for an opportunity to get more responsibilities and prove themselves in weaker lineups while other look for a legitimate shot at the Cup.

Kevin Shattenkirk comes in the second category, he who thought his passage with the Capitals would be his chance for glory. It didn't go according to plan and he's now free as a bird and look for his options. One team who showed a lot of interest already is the Tampa Bay Lightning, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Shattenkirk would be a nice fit in the Tampa crew, them needing more than ever a puck moving defenseman. However, he's expected to make a huge run at the bank with his next contract and probably ask for a long term deal. The Lightning is already tight on the salary cap and something would have to give in order for Shattenkirk to join Stamkos and his crew. They have 23M$ of space but they need to sign at least two quality forwards and at least 3 defenseman. Jonathan Drouin leaving the team left a bit of space, but his spot in the roster need to be filled nonetheless.

The Shattenkirk derby will be crazy folks!
