One trade offer gets more concrete for Bo Horvat

Could he be moved sooner rather than later?

Recent reports have indicated that the Vancouver Canucks began inquiring about captain Bo Horvat’s trade value with other teams. On Saturday, Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek stated that Canucks management has spoken with several teams about Horvat. And there seems to be a more concrete trade offer on the table for the Canucks’ leader as Marek said at least one of those discussions “revolved around three players, including the team’s No. 1 prospect.”

In his latest 32 Thoughts column, Marek’s colleague Elliotte Friedman mentioned that “To this point, Vancouver has not allowed any teams to speak with the pending UFA.”

However, Pierre LeBrun didn’t shy away on Tuesday night to mentioned one club that is very interested on Insider Trading on TSN:

“He’s having a career-year and they’ve pretty much checked in with almost every contender. One of them being, I’m told, the Carolina Hurricanes. A lot of people like the Hurricanes as a fit for Horvat. Remember Carolina struggled offensively in the playoffs last year? Well, what a boost it could be. And he skates, which is what that team is about in terms of speed. But, the price is too steep I think for the Hurricanes at this point. As we reported last month, the Canucks would want a young centre as part of a multi-asset package. They’re not getting Martin Necas from the Hurricanes. Carolina doesn’t spend high on rentals traditionally. I don’t think they’ll break that path here for Bo Horvat. So we’ll see where this goes.”

I can’t say from LeBrun’s update that the Hurricanes are the ones Marek was hinting at with his “three players, including the team’s No. 1 prospect”, though Carolina could be facing steep competition to land Horvat. Pretty much all teams are taking a closer look at the pending free agent, and if or when the Canucks do allow interested clubs to speak with Horvat, then maybe a clear front-runner will emerge and could get a trade done with this proposed offer by Marek.

This is one that will continue to grab my attention until the deadline is over with.
