After the game, head coach Craig Berube revealed gruesome details of another one of his players’ injury.
The Toronto Maple Leafs might have gotten the much needed two points in a 3-2 overtime win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, they were also dealt two injury blows.
Ahead of the contest, it was announced that star forward Matthew Knies was out due to injury, and Berube explained postgame that Knies’ ailment has been lingering for a while, and it acted up today and he couldn’t play.
While that’s already a tough blow, it was what the head coach said next about Sammy Blais that got most of the attention, especially from fans on social media.
Berube revealed that Blais did not finish the game after taking a hard contact to the body and was coughing up blood.
He had body contact, and then he was kind of like coughing up blood and stuff, So, he had to go in (to the room).”
Until he took the heavy contact, it had been a good game for Blais, who joined the Maple Leafs on a waiver claim earlier this season. He collected an assist, but was pulled after six minutes and 31 seconds of ice time because of that blood being coughed up…
For now, Blais is on stand by for the Leafs’ skate on Wednesday, however, he was seen speaking with some former Blues’ teammates in the hall after the game, which sounds like a positive sign on his condition.
But coughing up blood never sounds good and perhaps he will be added to the team’s already packed infirmary in Toronto…
