The Ottawa Senators have just handed their head coach quite a bit of power behind the bench with a huge vote of confidence from both management and ownership.

On Monday, the Senators released an official announcement in which they revealed that Green has been signed to a major contract extension. Green's extension is a multi-year extension that will run through the 2030-2031 National Hockey League season, making it clear that Green is here to stay.

In spite of the fact that he hasn't always had the strongest rosters to work with, Green has managed to get the most out of his teams and has a winning record behind the Senators bench with a record of 95 - 60 - 18 during the regular season.

That success has unfortunately failed to translate to the playoffs with Green boasting an ugly record of 2-8 with the Senators in the playoffs, although it's hard to blame all of that on the coach, especially when that includes a very recent sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes, the eventual Stanley Cup champions.

Green has shown a true passion for his team and his players behind the bench during his tenure in Ottawa, often expressing his disbelief when he feels his team gets a raw deal from the officials, and it seems that has helped endear him to the Senators front office, players, and fan base.

"When I was in the search to identify our head coach two years ago, it was clear to me that Travis had the qualities to move our team forward. I have watched him implement systems and structures that have reinforced my belief in his coaching abilities," said president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios on Monday. "We share the same vision and philosophy and are confident we can continue to build on our team."
