Frightening moment as Joe Veleno takes slap shot to the face

As if this game wasn't going poorly enough for Detroit already.

Almost nothing has gone right for the Detroit Red Wings so far tonight against the division rival Buffalo Sabres, another team who is creeping up on them in the standings and is on pace to be two points closer at the end of the evening.

Not only did Buffalo take a 4-1 lead over the Red Wings into the 1st intermission after vastly outplaying them in the opening 20 minutes, forward Joe Veleno took an accidental slap shot directly to the side of the head early in the 2nd period from Connor Clifton.

In a good gesture of sportsmanship, Clifton made sure to give Veleno a tap with the stick after making sure that he wasn't seriously injured.

It's always frightening to see a player take a shot to the face like that, and we're hopeful that Veleno was able to avoid a serious injury.
