Senator's beat writer Bruce Garrioch was the first to report the trade, which would also send David Legwand to the Sabres in return of a first round pick, the 21st overall.
McKenzie adds that the trade isn't official yet, so there might still be some negotiations going on.
Lehner was identified as the goalie of the future in Ottawa, but the emergence of Andrew "Hamburglar" Hammond last season forced the Senators to head in another direction.
Lehner played in 25 games last season, winning only nine and giving 3,02 goals against per game.
