And another one bites the dust… Defenseman Josh Brown is the latest Ottawa Senators’ player to enter the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. Brown joins the likes of Austin Watson, Nick Holden, Connor Brown and Victor Mete, who have been placed in COVID protocol since the week started.
The Senators have been struggling and even canceled practice on Monday as a precaution.
Just last night, hours before puck drop in Boston, the Senators had to call up Filip Gustavsson last minute because backup goalie Anton Forsberg was sidelined with a non-covid illness. He was rushed to the game without his equipment.
The situation is getting out of hand, and the NHL is hoping it won’t turn into the same ordeal the Vancouver Canucks dealt with back in April 2021. An outbreak then forced the league to postpone games and change the schedules of several teams.
At the moment, NHL deputy Commissioner Bill Daly informed team insider Bruce Garrioch of PostMedia that the league is “monitoring the situation” in Ottawa. Ideally, they’d rather not postpone games.
The Senators are off on Wednesday, after falling to the Bruins on Tuesday night. Their next contest takes place on Thursday in Ottawa against the visiting Los Angeles Kings.
