Singers rendition of the the Canadian National Anthem sparks outrage before Game 7.
A rendition of the Canadian National Anthem has received a ton of backlash on social media after a less than traditional version of the anthem was performed ahead of Game 7 between the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning.
On Sunday night, the Lightning trotted out Amanda Breivogel to sing the Canadian National Anthem ahead of Game 7 and there are some who believe there may have been some gamesmanship at play. Breivogel's rendition felt very over the top and dragged on for far too long, sounding very much like it was being performed by someone relatively unfamiliar with the anthem.
The criticism followed almost immediately:
Unfortunately for Breivogel, her performance looked all that much worse when compared to the Lightning's traditional anthem singer Sonya Bryson-Kirksey who was up next to sing the American National Anthem. Bryson-Kirksey once again showed that she is among the very best at what she does, providing quite the contrast when compared to the singer that had come before.
While some were simply critical of Breivogel's performance, others suggested that the awkward performance may have all been part of some deeper mind games on the part of the Lightning ahead of one of the biggest games of the year.
At the end of the day even if this was a ploy on the part of the Lightning I don't think anyone will blame them for pulling out all the stops in their attempt to advance in tonight's Game 7.
