Ovi and Crosby after hockey?
The 2023 National Hockey League All-Star Game and the All-Star weekend as a whole will go down as a rather forgettable event for what I believe is a large segment of hockey fans, but that doesn't mean that the entire event was a waste.
Players from across the NHL got to meet up in sunny Florida for a few days along with their families and get to know one another in ways that they don't often get to do as rivals on the ice. There is perhaps no better example of this than lifelong rivals Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.
The two men have been compared to one another for as long as they have both played in the league, and it should come as no surprise that after so many All-Star appearances from each of these competitors that they have also developed a bond over the years.
Both Ovechkin and Crosby clearly have a great deal of respect for one another and although they currently remain competitors on the ice at the moment it sounds like that won't always be the case. When Ovechkin was asked to share his thoughts on the captain of the Penguins at this year's NHL All-Star Game, the captain of the Capitals revealed that he is looking forward to a time when he will be able to share a moment with his longtime rival when they have both wrapped up their respective NHL careers.
"I’m pretty sure when me and him are retired, we're just gonna have a couple beers together and talk about the whole thing and what happened in the past 15, 16 years," said Ovi as per Pens Inside Scoop.
There are no doubt more than a few hockey fanatics that would love to be a fly on the wall in that room when that conversation does eventually happen.
