The National Hockey League offered fans a great matchup on the first day of the season Wednesday, when the defending Stanley Cup champions St. Louis Blues faced the former winners of the prestigious trophy, the Washington Capitals, in their home opener.

While everyone expected a great game, they didn’t see one move coming.

A fan that was present at the season opener in St. Louis revealed that Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin went around the ice and congratulated every player from the Blues lineup on winning the franchise’s first championship.

The fan took a quick picture of Ovechkin congratulating Vladimir Tarasenko and noted that Ovi went on to tap Alexander Steen in the leg and said “congratulations Steener”. Steen gave him a tap back along with a big smile.

That’s a classy move by the Russian superstar, who knows how much hard work is needed to raise the Cup and present the local fans with a championship banner.

After the congratulations were out of the way, Ovechkin went back to focusing on playing - and winning - helping the Caps get the 3-2 overtime victory over the Blues with a goal.

That’s good karma, I bet.
