Late on Wednesday evening, defenceman Jake Sanderson has signed an eight-year, $64.4 million extension with the Ottawa Senators.
The contract an average annual value of $8.05 million and will run through 2031-32.
GM Pierre Dorion released the following statement about the signing:
“Jake’s transition to the pro game has been flawless. He’s a very mature young man who demonstrates a routine and skillful ability to play important minutes with poise. An effortless skater who holds himself to a high standard, he has the talent to be one of the best all-around defensemen in the NHL for years to come. We’re very pleased to have another significant member of our core group of players under long-term contract.”
At just 21 years old, Sanderson posted four goals and 28 assists for 32 points in 77 games last season. Quite the impressive rookie season, if you ask me.
He was selected No. 5 overall by the Senators in the 2020 NHL Draft and played his first NHL season with the team in 2022-23. And the future is looking bright !
