Nashville Predators superstar P.K. Subban is no stranger to prejudice. The African-Canadian defenseman grew up in a predominantly white city and plays a predominantly white sport. As a young black man playing in a mostly white man’s sports, he’s been an outsider since the beginning. But Subban’s skill, passion and his willingness to never give up have enabled him to push past the racist and intolerant obstacles in his way.

Earlier today Subban took a few moments out of his busy day to send a quick message to a 13 year old boy who has also been dealing with racist taunts from opponents this season. It was a touching moment, worth sharing.

Check it out:

How great is that? Whether you enjoy Subban’s on ice antics or not, he does have a reputation for… shall we say embellishment, you cannot deny his off ice impact, especially when he goes out of his way to personally address fans like this. He’s full of character and personality and frankly, we love it.
