A longtime team member faces serious charges after a Friday arrest.
The Florida Panthers moved swiftly on Friday evening after one of their longest tenured behind-the-scenes staff members was taken into custody by law enforcement in South Florida.
Head Equipment Manager Teddy Richards was arrested in Coral Springs on Friday and booked into the Broward Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. He faces a charge of domestic violence along with a charge related to unauthorized use of 911 services.
The Panthers wasted no time responding. The organization released a statement through its official channels confirming they had been made aware of the situation.
"The Florida Panthers organization has been made aware of an incident involving the arrest of Equipment Manager Teddy Richards. Effective immediately, he will be suspended from all team activities and facilities pending investigation," the team's statement read.
Richards has been a fixture with the Panthers since the 2016-17 season, but his NHL career stretches back even further. Before joining Florida, he worked with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he was part of the club's 2016 Stanley Cup championship run.
His resume only grew more impressive in South Florida. Richards was on staff for both of the Panthers' consecutive Cup victories in 2024 and 2025, giving him three championship rings across his career.
Beyond his NHL duties, Richards also represented the United States on the international stage. He served on Team USA's equipment staff, including at the 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Winter Olympics.
As of Friday evening, Richards remained in custody at the Broward Main Jail. No further details about the circumstances surrounding his arrest have been made public by authorities or the team.
The charges are serious. Domestic violence allegations carry significant legal consequences in the state of Florida, and the unauthorized use of 911 services charge adds another layer to the case.
But the Panthers have immediately drawn a clear line by barring Richards from all team facilities and activities while the investigation unfolds.
How the situation develops over the coming days and weeks could determine whether one of the most decorated equipment managers in recent NHL history has any future left with the organization.
