This is all kinds of awesome.

It was the obvious choice, and the Detroit Red Wings are making sure that he's being honored properly.
Forward Dylan Larkin was named the 37th captain in team history prior to last season, following in the footsteps of the likes of Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Henrik Zetterberg. However, due to being in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there weren't any special ceremonies or recognition at Little Caesars Arena, namely because there were hardly any fans that were able to safely be in attendance.
However, that's all changed now. Tonight is the home opener of the 95th season of Red Wings hockey, and it's a sold out barn in downtown Detroit, the first such since prior to the start of the pandemic. And the team had more than a few special guests on hand.
Former team captains Red Berenson, Paul Woods, Nick Libett, Dennis Hextall, Alex Delvecchio Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg were on hand to officially welcome the Waterford, MI native as the newest player to don the legendary "C" on his sweater.
Take a look at the special pre-game ceremony that took place before tonight's home opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning for yourself below, and we dare you not to get chills.
Prior to Larkin being named team captain, the Red Wings went two seasons without an official leader after it was announced that Henrik Zetterberg was hanging up the skates during the 2018 edition of training camp.
Larkin is a Waterford Township, MI native and grew up a Red Wings fan. He also attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and was drafted 15th overall by the Red Wings in the 2014 NHL Draft.
Of course, he's already become a fan favorite in his time with the team. Take a listen for yourself as he's introduced:
And naturally, Larkin followed this up by scoring the first goal of the season later in the 1st period. It's certainly been a banner night for Larkin, and so far, it's been just the same for the rest of his teammates and the fans at LCA.
