A devastating blow shows the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
On Friday night, Anthony Thomas-Maroon may very well have put himself on the map when he showed the hockey world that the things that made his father a famous and beloved figure in the National Hockey League may very well be genetic.
Anthony, who plays for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL, is the son of former NHL enforcer Pat Maroon and recently made highlights around the hockey community during a game between his Lumberjacks and the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. During the game Anthony would drop the gloves with Phantoms defenseman Jack Hamilton and it was during that altercation that he put himself on the map with many in the hockey community.
The fight between the two young men looked like a clear mismatch initially with Hamilton being the much bigger of the two at 6'4 and over 200 lbs, while Anthony comes in at just 5'11 and just over 170 lbs, but that was before considering the pedigree of both men. Anthony may have had the advantage of having a legendary NHL enforcer as a father because he made quick work of Hamilton during the exchange.
Although both men would swing wildly at first, the moment that Anthony connected with a heavy right hand the fight was over. Hamilton crumbled to the ice, clearly out of the fight at that point, with Anthony showing class and holding his opponent up to prevent him from hitting the ice.
