Patrice Bergeron predicted the Golden Knights would win the Stanley Cup!

He knew. This anecdote is incredible!

At the beginning of the 2022-23 season, very few people predicted that the Vegas Golden Knights would be Stanley Cup champions.

But one person knew and that was Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron, per Vegas Hockey Now.

Golden Knights president George McPhee explained on Friday how GM Kelly McCrimmon asked Mark Stone to call Patrice Bergeron before they hired Bruce Cassidy as their new head coach.

When Bergeron spoke with Stone, he told the Golden Knights’ captain: “If Vegas hired Bruce, they’ll win the Stanley Cup next year.”

Well, would you look at that! He was right.

The pressure was lighter for Cassidy once his former team was eliminated from the postseason, when the Bruins were ousted in the first round by the Florida Panthers. He never worried about how he’d be viewed by people, it was more about his children, Cole and Shannon, he recently told the Athletic.

“I’m a big boy. I can deal with it,”he told Jesse Granger. “What I was more concerned with was we have a house in Cape Cod, and we like it there in the summer. We have a lot of roots there. I worked there for 15 years and the kids were born there. I was a little relieved after (the Bruins) lost in the playoffs for my kids not having to hear about ‘Oh, if your dad had done a better job…’ You know what I mean? Kids say things.”

I’m not sure if Bergeron expected the Bruins to do as well in the regular season and imagined facing his former coach in the Final, but instead he was right with his prediction and Cassidy and his Golden Knights were crowned champions.
