The Boston Bruins made a drastic reversal of course on Sunday night when, just days after announcing a highly controversial contract signing, the organization made the decision to cut ties with defenseman Mitchell Miller. The decision came after tremendous public pressure was put on the Bruins and after the team faced a torrent of negative criticism and backlash over their decision to sign the controversial player.

Following the initial announcement of Miller's signing there were a number of players in the Bruins' locker room who publicly voiced concerns over Miller's history and now there may even be reason to believe that some of those players expressed those concerns in a more vocal fashion behind the scenes.

On Monday, Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron was asked about the team's decision to reverse course and it was there that he hinted at the fact that the players had spoken out. When asked if the locker room had universally been against the signing, Bergeron left little doubt.

“In a way, yes," admitted the Bruins captain. "I’m glad we were heard.”

In perhaps the least surprising news of the day, Bergeron also confirmed that the signing had become a genuine distraction for the players. Considering that many of them were being asked difficult questions about Miller's past behavior, it's hard to imagine how it could have been anything other than a major distraction.

“Now, I feel like we can turn the page," said Bergeron.

Bergeron also had a message for the Bruins fans who were disappointed by the team's decision to sign Miller in the first place. Bergeron reiterated the players' commitment to the team's core values, while also expressing that they had heard the public outcry from their fan base.

“We hear you," said the captain. "And our values remain the same.”
