The Detroit Red Wings have lost two straight and six of the last seven outtings and are currently out of the playoff picture heading into the season half of the 2023-24 season.

One bright spot in Hockey Town has been the performance from Patrick Kane, who signed with the Red Wings on Nov. 28 after undergoing hip surgery in the offseason. The star forward has put up six goals and 11 points in 11 games and he has recently told ESPN’s Emily Kaplan how he strongly believes he is still one of the top players in the NHL.

With his comments on his health and motivation, Kane is also reminding fans what his agent, Pat Brisson, revealed earlier this month. It was reported that Kane’s camp talked to the Red Wings about the possibility of Detroit not making the postseason and what it could mean for the star forward’s trade deadline plans. There is a strong belief that GM Steve Yzerman has committed to trading Kane to a Stanley Cup contender if the Red Wings cannot clinch a playoff spot ahead of the trade deadline.

For now, the Red Wings are out of playoff contention and will need to start winning games to make sure they can finally return the postseason after missing out for the past seven years.

If Kane can continue to produce at a high level, the Red Wings have a better chance to make a playoff push, however, the star forward may not miss out on a chance at another championship if he tells Brisson to make a move and Yzerman pulls the trigger on a monster trade that could get him interesting assets in return for a rebuild.

Let’s see first if Detroit can catch a break and get the win tonight over the Nashville Predators…
