Patrick Kane creates negotiating conundrum in Chicago!

What a messy trade situation this has become…

Nothing is simple in the trade situation involving forward Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks.

After he felt upset when the New York Rangers chose to acquire Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues instead him earlier this month, Kane now seems focused on looking at his options on the trade market.

However, Hawks insider Ben Pope and Pierre LeBrun report that “IF Kane decides to be traded, he will give the Blackhawks just ONE team to talk to. If that doesn’t work out, he might then give another team, but it will supposedly be one at a time.”

This is quite the negotiating conundrum for GM Kyle Davidson, who commented on Tuesday night about his top forward’s decision ahead of March 3rd.

As Pope points out, the Blackhawks are at Kane’s mercy.

“The Hawks will have absolutely zero leverage in that case. The chosen team will know Davidson will feel obligated to fulfill Kane’s wishes and also know no other teams can bid the price up. There will be nothing stopping them from doing some major lowballing.”

Per Pope, the situation is oddly similar to what took place with the Philadelphia Flyers and Claude Giroux last year before he was moved to the Florida Panthers.

Kane remains in control as he has a full no-movement clause. We get that he would love to join former teammate Artemi Panarin in New York, however, the Rangers have $1.170 million in projected deadline cap space. There is a belief that the Blue Shirts might have gone with Tarasenko instead upon learning about Kane’s lingering hip issues. He as missed four games this season due to lower body injury, and has posted 14 goals and 42 points in 53 games.
