Don’t hold your breath when it comes to waiting on Patrick Kane to sign a new contract. According to his agent Pat Brisson, the star forward in any hurry to choose his next destination and may wait to sign until he’s fully healthy following his recovery from hip resurfacing surgery at the beginning of June. He was given a four-to-six-month recovery timeline.

“There’s no rush. This is one I’m very comfortable with. I’m very calm,” Brisson said to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski. “You could offer me a one-year deal or a two-year deal right now at $7 million or so. I don’t even know if I want to entertain it, because it’s not what he needs. We’ll see, at the right time, how he feels, where he’s at, and then we’ll take it from there.”

Brisson mentioned how some teams have contacted him about his client, who is focused on his recovery. Kane will turn 35 in November, but still managed to record 21 goals and 36 assists across 73 games between the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers last season.

While he waits to be back to 100% and probably into the season, Kane might be able to identify top contenders to sign with a competitive team in order to land another Stanley Cup before retiring. However, contenders might also not want to gamble on Kane and pursue other options before the season kicks off. And let’s not forget how tight cap it out there for everyone…

This is quite an important decision for Kane, who could end up anywhere at this point!
