One of the bigger mysteries that has yet to be solved despite the official start of the 2023-24 NHL season is where future Hall of Fame forward Patrick Kane, who split last season between the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers, will be suiting up.

He's been linked to a handful of teams, including both the Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres - as well as even the possibility of a return to New York.

However, according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, it looks as though the Red Wings could have the inside track on Kane thanks to the fact that they now feature his former lineman Alex DeBrincat.

"Certainly a surprise to me when I first heard it," said Seravalli. "I thought it was really intriguing. But I have to tell you that the idea of getting Kane and Alex DeBrincat relinked is certainly something that has stood out to many. So the Red Wings are another team; let’s see how this season develops before we make any judgments."

Seravalli also lists his hometown Sabres as well as the Rangers as his other possible destinations, which could be sorted out next month.

"Sometime in November is the target date for Patrick Kane to get moving again and make some kind of decision," said Seravalli. "And as mentioned, keep an eye on those three teams. There will be others coming out of the woodwork to try to make a pitch, but I think those three teams are the ones that have been mentioned to this point."

One of the best American-born players in NHL history, Kane has appeared in a total of 1,180 NHL games and has scored 451 goals with 786 assists; he's also scored 53 goals and 85 assists in 143 postseason games, helping the Blackhawks to three separate Stanley Cup championship wins.
