Patrick Roy makes change to Islanders coaching staff after first win.
Patrick Roy makes a move, adding a new member to the New York Islanders coaching staff.
It was less than 24 hours ago that Patrick Roy coached his very first game as the head coach of the New York Islanders, picking up his very first win in the process, but he is already implementing changes to the coaching staff.
According to early reports out of Quebec, Roy has recruited Benoit Desrosiers to join him behind the bench of the Islanders effective immediately. Desrosiers was currently serving as the head coach of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Gatineau Olympiques, but he has reportedly left that position to join Roy behind the bench of the New York Islanders.
Desrosiers and Roy have an extensive history of working together and his selection will come as no surprise to those who have followed Roy's coaching career in junior hockey. Desrosiers served under Roy as an assistant coach for the Quebec Remparts from 2017 until 2023 when the two men captured a Memorial Cup championship together.
Given the level of success Desrosiers and Roy have achieved alongside one another, it's no surprise to see Roy hoping to repeat that success at the NHL level.
Desrosiers won't be leaving his junior team high and dry either, with Serge Beausoleil already named as his replacement behind the bench for the Olympiques.
