There seems to be a spirited competition between 2016 first overall pick Auston Matthews and second overall Patrik Laine ever since they kicked things off in the National Hockey League. However it now feels like the latter is begging to get compared to the Toronto Maple Leafs star player.

On Thursday, the Winnipeg Jets forward revealed that he had gotten a new tattoo over the summer: a massive sleeve tattoo on a lion on his right arm.

Just like Matthews got inked earlier in the offseason of 2017.

However, Laine explained his decision behind the new ink and it seems quite personal for him to show this design. And no, it isn’t because he wanted matching tattoos with Matthews…

Laine explained how there is a lot more to his tattoo as the lion represents the Finnish national hockey team, and also “looks cool”, he also has a unique pattern down his forearm, highlighted by a joker playing card.

Laine added that the tattoo is still unfinished, despite getting inked for 14 hours, and that he’s considering whether he’ll do the other arm as well.
