The Patrik Laine era with the Columbus Blue Jackets has officially come to an end. Minutes ago, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens along with a second round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft in exchange for defenseman Jordan Harris:
The former No. 2 overall pick has two years remaining on his current contract that carries an AAV of $8.7 million; no salary was retained by the Blue Jackets.
Laine was recently reinstated by the NHL after having been cleared to return to play after a stay in the NHL Player Assistance Program for what he described as time to focus on his "mental health and well-being". He appeared in only 18 games this past season, scoring six goals with three assists.
