Earlier this week, the New York Islanders announced the signing of forward Julien Gauthier to a two-year contract and forwards Karson Kuhlman and Brian Pinho to one-year, two-way contracts.

That was just after Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello signed Ilya Sorokin, Scott Mayfield, Pierre Engvall and Semyon Varlamov to long contracts: Sorokin got an eight years with an $8.25 million AAV; Varlamov, four years with a $2.75 million AAV; Mayfield, seven years with a $3.5 million AAV; and Engvall, seven years, with a $3 million AAV.

Lamoriello has gotten a lot of scrutiny for his recent move and on Friday, former NHLers Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney blew up on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast and rip Lou to shreds. Lou is adamant that the Isles can compete for a Stanley Cup. However, the contracts he’s recently handed out could lead to headaches and maybe that’s why Lou is already enjoying a vacation ahead of a busy season - or he’s getting ready for whenever the Islanders are forced to let him go…
