Whoa. This is a surprising news out of Winnipeg. The Jets have just announced that Paul Maurice has resigned as head coach of the Jets.
Dave Lowry replaces him on an interim basis.
No one saw this coming. Maurice was in his ninth season as head coach of the Jets, having led his team to the postseason in each of the past four years.
The Jets are currently in fifth place of the Central Division with a 13-10-5 record, three points behind the Edmonton Oilers for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
According to TSN insider Darren Dreger, the reason behind Maurice's departure is not sinister.
"A shocking announcement in Winnipeg as Paul Maurice resigns as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets. Maurice will explain why shortly. His family is fine. There’s nothing sinister. It’s a personal decision."
