The Pittsburgh Penguins are dealing with quite a few injuries... and that is putting it mildly.

On Saturday, the Penguins announced that a whopping 8 players would miss today's game against the Washington Capitals due to a variety of injuries. Most of those players are considered day to day, however the injury to Penguins forward Connor Dewar appears to be more serious.

The players who will miss today's game are as follows:

Sidney Crosby (lower-body)
Ben Kindel (upper-body)
Evgeni Malkin (upper-body)
Bryan Rust (lower-body)
Parker Wotherspoon (upper-body)
Erik Karlsson (lower-body)
Kris Letang (upper-body)
Connor Dewar (lower-body)

As I mentioned Dewar's injury is considered to be more serious and he is currently being listed as week to week, putting his status for the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs into question.

The others are considered day to day and I suspect that they would all be playing if the Penguins were still in a fight for their playoff lives. Instead the Penguins have secured their spot in the playoffs and appear to be doing the wise thing by resting most of their veteran players for what is otherwise a meaningless game for the Penguins.

It is unfortunate that Sidney Crosby will miss what could very well be the last meeting between the Alex Ovechkin-led Washington Capitals and Sidney Crosby-led Pittsburgh Penguins, but the Penguins obviously have bigger things in mind with the Stanley Cup playoffs only just around the corner.
