Penguins bring aboard back to back Stanley Cup champion
More Cup winning experience on the way!
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ron Hextall managed to find himself back in the good graces of his fan base after he was able to turn the tables and sign not just one but both of their high profile free agents in Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin; of course, that was on the heels of bringing back forward Bryan Rust.
He's now brought aboard more Stanley Cup-winning experience, signing former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Jan Ruuta to a three year free agent contract worth an AAV of $2.75 million:
Ruuta, who has spent the last four years with Tampa, won back to back Cup championships in 2020 and 2021, and came within two wins of winning a third straight last month. However, Tampa's dreams of being the NHL's first three-peat since the early 1980's New York Islanders were dashed by the Colorado Avalanche.
He scored three goals with 15 assists in 76 games played last season while also posting career highs in plus/minus and points.
