Penguins bring Stanley Cup winner Robby Fabbri on PTO

The first round pick has been dealt tons of bad luck, but it could turn in Pittsburgh.

One player who has remained unsigned heading into the 2025-26 season was center Robby Fabbri, who finally got a shot on Wednesday when it was reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins are bringing him in on a professional try-out contract with a chance to crack the main roster during camp.

Fabbri spent last season with the Anaheim Ducks, but only played in 44 games due to injury. There has pretty much been the whole story of his career, ever since he was selected 21st overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2014. He scored 18 goals during the 2023-24 campaign and has recorded at least 25 points in five of nine seasons, but most of them were derailed by injuries, undergoing three different ACL surgeries throughout his career.

He deserves a chance and signing Fabbri to a PTO is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Penguins.

Fabbri is likely to come to camp motivated to land a spot on the main roster, and could prove to be a valuable addition to the bottom-six if signed before the season starts.

Depending on how Fabbri bounces back and shows off during camp, it could be an absolute steal for Pittsburgh.
