Penguins fan who was rejected for kiss tells his side of the story!

It sounds like this story will have a happy ending.

The Pittsburgh Penguins took care of business at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday night, taking down the New York Rangers by a 7-4 final score to take a 2-1 series lead.

However, it was an incident that took place in the stands following a Penguins goal that went viral and had fans talking. A Penguins fan was captured on camera trying to get a smooch from his significant other, who rejected him.

The reaction was immediate and swift on social media, even from local legendary Pittsburgh eatery Primanti Brothers, who promised a free pastrami sandwich for the fan:

However, it sounds as though this story has a happy ending, after all.

The fan, identified as Matt McHugh, explained during an interview on 93.7 The Fan that he and his girlfriend Jacquelyn have been together for nearly a decade and had already kissed in celebration following Danton Heinen's goal, but that it was missed by the camera man.

“Literally 3 seconds after the initial kiss I saw one of the TV camera men spin around towards us and I thought “Here is our opportunity to showcase our love for the Pens and each other with another kiss!” She clearly did not see the camera man and thought I was randomly going in for another kiss and the rest is history,” said McHugh.

McHugh, who is employed as a sales rep by Renewal by Andersen, also said that his co-workers are having some light-hearted fun over the incident.

“They know Jacquelyn very well and have been cheering her on for turning me down lol,” said McHugh.

The Penguins and Rangers will renew their rivalry when the teams gather tonight at PPG Paints Arena for Game 4; the Penguins can take a 3-1 stranglehold with a victory.
