Whoa! What is going on in Pittsburgh these days!?
This just in, a fan reportedly fell from the upper level of PPG Paints Arena this evening during a game between the home Pittsburgh Penguins and the visiting St. Louis Blues.
CBS News Pittsburgh reporter Ricky Sayer reports that the fan has been transported to hospital and that his injuries are life-threatening.
This happens less than 24 hours after the same thing occurred during a Pittsburgh Steelers' NFL game.
It happened in front of TribLive night news editor Dave Williams and High School Sports Network producer Jess Levo, who were both at the game as fans.
“I was afraid to look, but I did,” Levo said. “He was just lying there unconscious… Everyone was just stunned and in shock.”
She ran behind the loge section screamed: “Someone fell! Someone fell right in front of us!” she said.
When she got back to the suite, she could see people trying to help the man and saw he was bleeding.
“I decided not to look anymore and just prayed for the young man,” Levo said.
People including police and medical professionals responded quickly, Williams said.
During the fall, the man struck a person who was in the suite level below before continuing to fall to the lower bowl of the arena, police said.
The person who was struck was evaluated by paramedics and declined further treatment, police said.
They sad they were investigating the circumstances that led to the fall.
“Our concerns remain with the individual and his family at this time,” Penguins spokesman Evan Schall said.
